MIAMI DOLPHINS ace Kendrick Norton has had his arm amputated following a car crash.
The defensive linesman, 22, was said to have suffered a "catastrophic" injury to the limb after an incident in which at least one vehicle flipped over.
His agent Malki Kawa confirmed: "With sadness, I can confirm that Kendrick Norton was in a car accident last night and suffered multiple injuries, including the amputation of his arm.
"We ask that you continue to pray for him.
"His family also asks that the public respect Kendrick’s privacy."
A Dolphins statement read: “We were made aware this morning of a serious car accident involving Kendrick Norton.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendrick and his family during this time.”
Norton and another victim were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
The rising star played for the University of Miami and was a popular figure in the city.
He is in his second season with the Dolphins after signing from the Carolina Panthers' practice squad
Norton's team-mate Akeem Spence tweeted: "Praying for my brother hope al is well".

While tributes have also flooded in from fans from all NFL teams.
One wrote: "Wow. Praying for him and his family. At least he has his life."
And another urged the league to ensure that Norton – who would not be on a big-money deal – would be taken care of for the rest of his life.
