Justin Rose takes a one-shot lead into the third round
Follow all the action as the third round of The Masters gets underway at Augusta.
Justin Rose surged into a spectacular four-shot lead on Thursday but saw that advantage cut down to just one yesterday, with the Englishman struggling to recapture his best form. It was still a round of great resilience, though, by the former world No 1, who finished with a flourish of birdies to end with an even par round of 72. He will begin in the day’s final group alongside debutant Will Zalatoris who, despite never having won on the PGA Tour, has been in brilliant form.
There is a stacked field of high-profile names in close pursuit in what promises to be a thrilling moving day. Justin Spieth, the 2015 champion, whose redemptive form reached a peak with a victory in Texas last week, is just two shots back and made no attempts to conceal his thoughts of another Green Jacket after an impressive 68 yesterday. Justin Thomas, the Players champion, is just one further behind after a sloppy three-putt on the 18th green cast a blemish on what had otherwise been a perfect round of 67. Meanwhile, the likes of Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau are still firmly in contention. That much cannot be said of Rory McIlroy or defending champion Dustin Johnson, though, with the pair both missing the cut. Follow all the action from round three below:

THE MASTERS 2021: MOVING DAY
It’s called moving day for a reason. The last 31 Masters winners have been tied fifth-place or better ahead of the final round. With the top 20 separated by six shots and the potentially turbulent weather, this Masters really is anyone’s for the taking.

Bubba Watson’s long-time caddie, Ted Scott, was more than a little delighted to make it into the weekend. The 2012 and 2014 champion, sits on even par and will tee-off in half an hour.
THE MASTERS 2021: SPIETH EYES VICTORY
It is no secret that Jordan Spieth would be the popular winner at Augusta this week. The 2015 champion has experienced some bitter lows during a remarkable loss of form but finally brought his four-year drought to an end with victory in Texas last week.
A promising first round was wrecked by an episode of pinball in the trees on the ninth but he was very impressive yesterday, carding a 68 to leave himself just two shots behind Justin Rose.
THE MASTERS 2021: WILL WEATHER PLAY A FACTOR?
The threat of thunderstorms has been looming over Augusta this week, but the course has remained dry up until now. That is forecasted to change this afternoon, with gusts of wind expected to reach up to 20mph according to The Masters’ official weather report.
By the time Justin Rose and Will Zalatoris tee-off at 7.20pm, the chance of rain and thunderstorms is predicted to be 40%. An hour into their round, it rises to 60%. In the short term, that could lead to rounds being paused until the weather clears. The long-term impact on the course, though, will be the softening of its fairways and greens, making scoring far easier for the players.
THE MASTERS 2021: POULTER AND MOLINARI PICK UP BIRDIES
Ian Poulter and Francesco Molinari made it to the weekend by the skin of their teeth, but they too are enjoying fine starts. The former hits a brilliant tee-shot into the par-3 6th while the latter makes light work of the par-5 2nd. They are both +2 for the tournament.
THE MASTERS 2021: MICKELSON MAKES BRIGHT START
It’s moving day, but the early starters certainly have some ground to cover. Three over par was the cut line, meaning three-time champion Phil Mickelson is among those to what squeezed into the weekend. He’s started brightly, too, despite an erratic round yesterday. A wonderful approach at the 1st left just 11ft for birdie and a typically brilliant pitch at the third made for the simplest of tap-ins. He’s now +1 for the tournament.
THE MASTERS 2021: MCILROY AND JOHNSON MISS CUT
While the stragglers who just made it into the weekend are getting underway now at Augusta, there are plenty of big names who missed the cut. None more so than defending champion Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy, whose swing toils continued in another chastening round. Brooks Koepka, who worked tirelessly to recover from knee surgery to participate also fell short, as did Lee Westwood.
