    Andy Cole on Sancho

Part two of Andy Cole's quotes on Erik Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

The former striker said he believes that Ten Hag has created an unnecessary issue for himself by alienating Sancho amid ongoing chaos at the club.

He told BetFred: "Manchester United haven’t started the season in a good way and Erik ten Hag didn’t need to create another distraction that the club doesn’t need. It just didn’t need to happen. All the publicity surrounding the club at the moment is negative and it can have an adverse reaction on the players because people just expect them to get their heads down and play football, but of course this negativity is going to affect them.

"Everybody is looking to the players to pull the club out of the doldrums and now they have added pressure on their shoulders because if they don’t start getting results, then everybody’s going to start complaining that the players aren’t helping the situation either. It’s such a precarious situation to be in and it’s something that the club needs to find themselves out of immediately if they’re going to start winning football matches."

Andy Cole – Ten Hag has created an unnecessary issue

Andy Cole says he believes Erik Ten Hag has created an unnecessary issue by disclosing the reason that he left Jadon Sancho out of the Manchester United squad.

Ten Hag said he jettisoned Sancho from his squad against Arsenal on Sunday due to his poor form in training.

But Cole says that would never have happened under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He told BetFred: "If Sir Alex Ferguson ever had a problem with a player, it didn’t leave the dressing room. So you can argue that Erik ten Hag has come out and said something negative about his player and he didn’t have to do that.

"If he didn’t say anything, then nobody’s getting wind of this situation. However, now he’s made the situation public, Jadon has now come out to defend himself.

Andy Cole – Manchester United will sign another centre-back

Manchester United legend Andy Cole has said that he thinks United will sign another centre-back due to being unable to rely on Raphael Varane's fitness.

Talking to BetFred, the former striker was asked if the club will bring in another defender and said: “Most probably, that wouldn’t surprise me. Over the last five years, Manchester United have spent over £150 million on centre-backs and in that time they never brought in a centre-forward, until this summer of course.

"So now you’re possibly talking about buying another centre-half because unfortunately you don’t know what Varane’s going to be able to give due to his injury record.

“I think that I’m as frustrated as anybody else when it comes to how Manchester United do things because it’s as if they’re doing everything back to front. They have so, so much to do before they’re in a position to compete.”

    Mainoo eyes return

Kobbie Mainoo has posted a snap of himself on his Instagram story alongside a ticking clock emoji – hinting at his return to the team.

The midfielder thoroughly impressed in pre-season and looked set to play a big part in the Premier League under Ten Hag.

His form was one of the reasons that United dragged their heels on a deal for Sofyan Amrabat as they did not want to stymie his development.

But Mainoo suffered an ankle injury in United's pre-season friendly with Real Madrid, ruling him out of the start of the season.

Last week he said in an Instagram comment that it "wouldn't be too long" before fans saw him take to the field again.

McTominay ‘likely to be available in January’

Scott McTominay was the subject of much speculation thorough the summer transfer window, but wound up staying in Manchester.

The Man Utd midfielder may be on borrowed time at Old Trafford though with reports suggesting the club will try offload him again in January.

According to The Evening Standard, McTominay is “likely” to be available for a transfer away from the club in the upcoming window.

Fulham had tried to sign the Scot this summer, but a deal fell through after he rejected a move to the capital in favour of staying with the Red Devils.

His decision ultimately led to the collapse of Joao Palhinha’s move to Bayern Munich with Fulham not willing to let their star man go without a replacement.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.

And The Athletic are now reporting that United could move for the 28-year-old in January.

They would face competition still from Bayern who are said to remain interested in re-entering the race for Palhinha’s signature by The Evening Standard.
