Cheltenham Festival Champion Hurdle news

Sharjah was mightily impressive in winning a second Morgiana on November 14, seeing off Zanahiyr by three lengths with a struggling Echoes In Rain a further 12 behind.

But this race really is all about Honeysuckle, who proved she is the one to beat yet again with a demolition job in the star-studded Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

Rachael Blackmore never got troubled on the reigning Champion Hurdle heroine and she actually looked to have got even better than last year.

Consequently she got even shorted at the head of the market, going from 13-8 to odds-on 4-5.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead said: "Rachael was brilliant on her and they're just a lethal combination.

"In fairness, Honeysuckle was really psyched before the race.”

"She gave me a little fright in this race last year, so we did a little bit more with her this year fitness-wise. When you have only so many runs in a season, they need to be pretty straight for them.

"She's an incredible mare and to be associated with her is amazing. The reception she got from everyone here is unbelievable."

Epatante was shortened to 10-1 after a controversial dead-heat photo finish in the Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.

Aidan Coleman did not sound too enthused after Nicky Henderson's star finished level with 18-1 outsider Not So Sleepy.

He said: "It was a great race. It's hard when you're in the race but it's one of those when you'll look back at the battle they had from the back of the last and you'll say it was the fairest result.

"You always want to win, especially Grade 1s, you don't want to be sharing them but at the same time it's a good result."
