How the Premier League Darts unfolded in Dublin

The Premier League continued to throw up plenty of draw with see-saw contests, a battling Barney and more final leg drama.

Last year’s finalist Michael van Gerwen was disappointed to miss out on a whitewash but maintains a perfect start, while Michael Smith, runner-up at The O2 sunk to the foot of the the table.

Raymond van Barneveld proved he has the stomach for a fight and Gerwyn Price and James Wade duked out a thrilling contest to start proceedings.

The Results

The ‘contenders’ remain without a victory but once again acquitted themselves well. To the delight of the crowd, Steve Lennon rose to the occasion pushing Peter Wright all the way after a blistering start and memorable entrance to ‘Whisky in the Jar.’

It was more just the walk-on. I started getting pins and needles and shaking like a leaf. But that was brilliant.

Moment of the night

Barney Army

Lennon’s entrance was special but Barney’s exit deserves special mention, the great doyen of darts even found time to take the microphone from Dave Clark – “They love the Barney Army but I want to give them more.”

Wayne Mardle

“Not many players get a reception like this – he has put so much into this, maybe he has changed the game.

If it hadn’t been for him all the great Europeans we are seeing, Michael van Gerwen too, they may not have even picked up a dart.

“That man was the reason Phil Taylor was so good, he had a rival.
