Crawley 1-3 Colchester: League Two side reach EFL Cup quarter-finals

Colchester United reached the League Cup quarter-finals for only the second time in their history by beating fellow League Two side Crawley Town.

The hosts led through a brilliant 25-yard strike by Dannie Bulman.

But the U’s were level 78 seconds later when Luke Norris headed home from Frank Nouble’s cross.

They led when Cohen Bramall’s free-kick hit the crossbar and went into the net off keeper Michael Luyambula – before Luke Gambin slammed home a third.

Gambin, who had come off the bench five minutes before scoring, played for Crawley last season.

They were last in the quarter-finals in 1974-75 where they lost to Aston Villa.

The last League Two side to reach that stage were eventual finalists Bradford City in 2012-13.

The quarter-final draw will take place on Thursday at about 08:45 GMT on BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
