Brisbane to host 2032 Olympics and become third Australian city to host Games as Down Under celebrates

BRISBANE will host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games, it's been announced.

It is the third time Australia will stage the Games following Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.

Brisbane – the capital of Queensland – won an uncontested vote which took place in Tokyo ahead of the upcoming Olympics in Japan.

The Brisbane Games is estimated to cost around £3.67billion, although most of that will be made back through ticket revenue, domestic sponsorship and broadcast rights.

The Australian Olympic Committee president and IOC vice-president John Coates said: “This is a very proud day for Australia, make no mistake.

“I thank the IOC members for their confidence. Brisbane 2032 is genuinely committed to serving the ideals of the Olympic movement.

"The Olympic Games in Brisbane will be in the most diligent, grateful and enthusiastic hands.

"I make this commitment to the athletes of the world – we will provide you with an unforgettable experience.”

Australia becomes just the third country to host the Olympic Games on three occasions after the United States and Great Britain.

Paris will host the 2024 Olympics, followed by Los Angeles in 2028.
