Arsenal will NOT terminate Mohamed Elneny's contract early with Egyptian set to leave on free transfer at end of season

MOHAMED ELNENY’S father has attempted to play down talk of his son’s departure from Arsenal.

The Egyptian midfielder, 29, joined the Gunners from Swiss side Basel back in 2016.

But he has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular during that period and only featured 73 times in the Premier League.

His lack of football led to a spell on loan at Besiktas in the 2019/20 campaign.

And now speculation has been mounting that he will be on his way again once the January transfer window opens.

Elneny is out of contract in June and will be able to leave Arsenal for nothing.

That led to reports that the North London side were willing to rip up the ace’s deal early and let him leave for free once the window re-opens..

He had allegedly already agreed a package to join El Ahly in his homeland.

But now Elneny’s dad has insisted that his son’s inclusion in the squad over the past two weekends shows that he is still a big part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Milli Gazete report Elneny senior saying to Al Hayat TV: “Mohamed’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season.

“The club does not intend to terminate his contract. His playing in the Liverpool match proves his coach’s belief in him and his abilities.

“It is difficult for him to return to Egypt during this period.

“The reports that El Ahly made a deal with him are completely false.”
