TALK of a mega money move to Manchester United took a toll on Sean Longstaff's performances, the Newcastle midfielder has confessed.
An immense run of form during the youngster's breakout campaign earned him many plaudits but Longstaff admits he hasn't discovered his best since the new season began.
United were heavily linked with a £50million bid for the Englishman during the off-season.
And despite being flattered by the links at the time, Longstaff acknowledges that he took his eye off the ball.
Speaking to Newcastle's official website, he said: “You can sometimes get distracted by the outside noise and maybe for a little bit in the summer I was a bit.
“It’s hard not to, whenever you go anywhere you see your face on the front of a newspaper and you turn the telly on people are talking about you.
“And it’s not like they’re talking about little things, they’re talking about things that can change your life really.”
MAN UTD outcast Fred has sent out a message on social media after being frozen out of the side.
The Brazilian midfielder has not been included in any of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's matchday squads this season.
Uploading a picture of himself playing for the Red Devils, he said: “Stay focused, and don’t let anything stop you to accomplish your goals.”

MAN UTD legend Roy Keane has blasted England's sloppy defensive display after their Euro 2020 win over Kosovo.
The Three Lions showed their devastating attacking prowess as they scored five goals before half-time against their Group A rivals.
But they also gifted Kosovo a series of easy goals with a string of errors in the 5-3 victory in Southampton – and ITV pundit Keane did not hold back with his criticism.
He said: “A great game to watch but England players have to be self-critical.
“England still have too many bad habits. Sometimes players get bored when the game seems over, that's where the sloppiness comes in.
“It's OK giving the ball away, but they compounded it by not getting back round, covering for your team-mates.
“If you were on the training pitch at your club you'd think that the players weren't taking it seriously, it was that sloppy.”
DAVID DE GEA is reportedly on the brink of signing a new deal at Man Utd.
According to the Athletic, the Spaniard is set to sign a £375,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford worth £19.5m-a-year.
The goalkeeper's current contract expires at the end of the season.
Juventus had bene linked with a move for the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper.
