Woman reveals why pretending to be low maintenance will never work

Life coach claims women who ‘pretend to be cool and low maintenance’ while dating will end up with a husband who gives them the ‘bare minimum’

  • The life coach believes high standards should be set from the start
  • Pretending to be ‘cool’ results in a partner offering the bare minimum

A life coach has urged women to never ‘pretend to be low maintenance’ in front of a partner at the beginning of a relationship.

Michelle Diaz, from the US, said acting like a ‘cool girl’ never works, and those who do will end up with a husband who gives them the bare minimum.

The life coach, who regularly shares dating tips on TikTok, said girls think it is ‘glamorous and cool to act low maintenance’, but it actually ‘stems from a fear of abandonment’.

‘The ‘cool girl’ never wins,’ Michelle said.

She was responding to a video by a woman in her thirties complaining that she didn’t set the standards high enough for her husband.

‘When you met your husband during your cool girl low maintenance era so you never expected anything from him, but now your in your thirties wishing you were romanced with gifts and flowers,’ the woman said.

Michelle said the ‘cool girl’ phenomenon always results in regret.

The ‘cool girl’ is a girlfriend who is ‘hot and understanding’ and never asks too much of their partners for fear of seeming needy or girly.

‘What have I told you guys a thousand times?’ she asked her followers.

She said women who say, “oh no I don’t need him to take me to a nice restaurant to know that he loves me,” are the same women saying “when is it my turn, why don’t I get the princess treatment?”

Michelle says she is in a relationship with the ‘most thoughtful, loving and generous man’ (left) because of following her own advice, and believing in the ‘lucky girl syndrome’

Michelle believes that many women think if they go into a relationship acting like a cool girl, their partner will fall in love with them and then they can set higher standards.

However, she said what actually happens is that the ‘cool girl’ ends up falling more in love, and settles for the bare minimum behaviour.

‘You know why they do that? Because they are afraid of being abandoned,’ the life coach explained.

She added that women may not feel deserving of ‘princess treatment’, but men will ‘lose respect’ if they don’t expect high standards.

‘Stop being afraid of being abandoned and set these standards from the beginning.’

Michelle says she is in a relationship with the ‘most thoughtful, loving and generous man’ because of following her own advice, and believing in the ‘lucky girl syndrome’.

The syndrome is a manifestation technique that says if you believe you are lucky and good things are coming your way then they will.

Michelle’s dating tips:

* Practice lucky girl syndrome – a manifestation technique that says if you believe you are lucky and good things are coming your way then they will

* Set the standards you expect in a relationship from the beginning

* Be highly selective in relationships and only date established men

Thousands of women were impressed, and agreed with Michelle’s advice.

‘This is so true. The cool girl was glamorised in movies but it’s a scam for real,’ one woman said.

‘I tried to be low maintenance and he took absolutely full advantage of it,’ another wrote.

‘Yes we need to stop settling for the bare minimum, but we also need to become a better women ourselves as well to acquire a high quality man,’ another wrote.
