Engagement has a nice ring to it for WNBA star Breanna Stewart.
The Seattle Storm forward popped the question to girlfriend Marta Xargay Casademont, a fellow professional basketball player, in Arizona’s Papago Park.
“Life isn’t just about the moments, it’s about who we share them with!” Xargay, 30, captioned an Instagram post Sunday. “I said YES 💍 #wifey.”
In the accompanying photos, Stewart, 26, is seen on one knee as she holds Xargay’s hand with a ring box in the other.
Xargay, who hails from Spain, played for the Phoenix Mercury in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016.
Stewart, who is a two-time WNBA champion, also celebrated the engagement news on social media.
“Did a thing. Another ring, She said YES,” she shared with her 249,000 Instagram followers.
Stewart, the first overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft, was named the league’s MVP in 2018, the same year claimed her first championship. In October 2020, Stewart scored her second championship title after the Storm defeated the Las Vegas Aces.
Stewart was also named the Finals MVP in 2020.
Stewart’s teammate Sue Bird and Chicago Sky player Candace Parker were among those who celebrated the couple’s engagement over the weekend.
“❤️❤️❤️,” Bird, 40, commented, while Parker, 35, wrote, “Congrats dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Over on Twitter, the Storm’s social media account proudly proclaimed, “Ring season continues! Congratulations @breannastewart and Marta!”
Stewart and Xargay’s engagement bliss may also include an on-court showdown this week. On Saturday, the Storm is set to face the Phoenix Mercury at the Suns Arena. As of Monday, Xargay is currently listed on the Mercury’s roster.
