Christmas is a popular time in the year for exes to make a reappearance.
And, usually, it’s someone we haven’t spoken to in a very long time.
The festive season can be a time of loneliness, and a recent poll by dating site Plenty of Fish found that four in 10 singles find this the worst time of year to experience this feeling.
So, if an ex suddenly materialises now – particularly if the relationship ended badly – it’s worth reflecting on their intentions.
On Twitter, many have been posting warnings over the last few days, with one reading: ‘This is ur sign to not text ur ex back’.
Another wrote: ‘No ex text this Christmas formed against you shall prosper. Say Amen!’
Kate says: ‘The best thing is to get really comfortable with your own company.
‘Being with someone just for the sake of being with someone, and particularly for the sake of being with someone over Christmas, may make you feel lonelier in the long run.
‘A wrong connection is worse than being on your own and being free to explore amazing new opportunities.’
She suggests doing things that make you feel good, especially if hearing from an ex has sucked some joy out of your day.
