The 5 biggest movie bombs of 2018, from ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ to ‘Robin Hood’

2018 will be remembered as a movie year with celebrated smash hits featuring historically diverse casts (“Black Panther,” “Crazy Rich Asians”) and what looks to be a record-setting box office that has already passed $11 billion.

But there were some movie bombs, too, that mix of terrible reviews, bad box office and unmet expectations. These were our top five misfires.

‘Robin Hood’

Even with the legit acting talents of Taron Egerton, as the bandit giving his booty to the poor, and hall-of-fame baddie Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham, this $100 million reboot was bad news (and not in a good way).

But who asked for another “Robin Hood,” anyway? Bigger question: Who asked for Robin to literally wear a hoodie? Yes, the script went there.

Critics gave this origin story, which set up future installments, a lowly 16 percent approval rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes, and “Robin Hood” disappeared quickly, finishing in seventh place Thanksgiving weekend. It’s still deep in the woods with just $73 million worldwide.

Those follow-ups, not looking likely.
