Royal Mail update as nine UK postcodes impacted by delivery delays today

Royal Mail services have been disrupted across the UK this week as a result of network operation issues.

The courier has issued an update stating that delivery and collection services will take place across the UK today, though some postcodes may face delays.

Households in Scotland and parts of England have been warned that they may have to wait longer for parcels that were due to arrive today, Wednesday, May 24.

It comes following a cancelled flight in the past 24 hours which was due to transport post to the Channel Islands.

According to the Royal Mail website, customers in Guernsey are most affected by the transportation delay.

In their statement, the courier explained: “Our air network services operated to schedule over the past 24 hours, with one exception.

“Last night’s flight from East Midlands airport to Guernsey airport was cancelled and mail was transferred to contingency services.

“As a result, some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK, due for delivery today in Guernsey, may arrive later than planned.”

However, Royal Mail did report that network services had “operated to schedule” at its mail centres, on rail routes, and on the roads.

Further disturbance to deliveries and collections has also been reported in parts of England and Scotland today.

Nine postcodes have been identified as “most affected” by challenged local offices that are struggling to operate at their full capacity.

Royal Mail has urged customers in the following areas to be prepared for delays:

  • Bristol South East DO (BS4 and BS14)
  • Faringdon DO (SN7)
  • Glasgow G1-G5 DO (G1-G5)
  • Sandhurst DO (GU46 and GU47)
  • Thatcham DO (RG18 and RG19)
  • Thornbury DO (BS35)
  • Westhill DO (AB13, AB14 and AB32)
  • Weston Super Mare DO (BS22, BS23 and BS24)
  • Yatton DO (BS49)

The postal service shared their regret over the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for being understanding about the issues faced by local branches.

In their latest service update, Royal Mail reassured Britons that they have taken steps to try and minimise the disruption caused by staffing and resourcing problems.

They added that they also aim to provide targeted support to offices and restore services to their usual “high standard”.

Households outside of the listed postcodes should not face delays.
