This was her first Golden Globe win

Last night at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, Regina King took home a Golden Globe for her performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk.”

King won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Dressed in a beautiful Alberta Ferretti rose gold fitted gown, Regina King looked shocked by her win as she took the stage and began her acceptance speech.

With this being the actress’ very first Golden Globe win, King had a very intriguing speech prepared to dazzle the audience.

Regina King vowed to produce gender-equal projects

The actress began her speech by thanking her publicist, “If Beale Street Could Talk” producers and filmmakers. King wanted to thank these of these individuals for their vision. Because of them, families of color were showcased in a positive light.

King then went on to challenge herself and fellow producers, vowing to only produce projects with 50% of female roles.

“So often, everyone out here that hear us on the red carpet [says] celebrities are using our time to talk about ourselves when we’re on our soapbox, and using a moment to talk about the systemic things going on in life, well, Time’s Up times two,” she said.

“The reason why we do this is because we understand that our microphones are big and we’re speaking for everyone.I’m going to use my platform right now, to say, in the next two years, everything that I produce – I am making a vow— and it’s going to be tough to make sure that everything that I produce, that it’s 50 percent, women,” she said.

“And I just challenge anyone out there, who is in a position of power, not just in our industry, in all industries, I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity and do the same.”

During her eye-opening, the ceremonial music began to play signaling the time for King to leave the stage, but she did not let that stop her from relaying her message.

Once Regina King ended her speech, the actress received a standing ovation from audience members.

Her speech comes one year after Time’s Up Movement

Many individuals in Hollywood have avidly supported in the Time’s Up Movement.

Since the sexual misconduct scandal surrounding film producer Harvey Weinstein came to light, many actors–more so actresses–have been taking a stand against male dominance in Hollywood.
