M&S £55 loafers are the perfect alternative to Bottega Veneta’s £860 pair

When it comes to transitional clothes, we’re all too familiar with the essential knitwear, lightweight jackets and layers that are required to see us through both warmer weather and downpours. However, when it comes to footwear that's suitable for all weather and seasons, it can be trickier to find something that works.

For the last couple of years, loafers have become one of our go-to styles when we move from summer into autumn, as they’re waterproof and sturdy enough to withstand sudden downpours, but don’t make our feet overheat when the sun comes out.

We’ve been eyeing up Bottega Veneta’s Madame Black Leather Loafers, £860 here, thanks to their patent black leather finish and gold details, but we’re not quite willing to splurge almost £1000 on some footwear.

Thankfully, whilst on the lookout for the perfect alternative we came across Marks and Spencer’s Leather Trim Flat Loafers, £55 here, that are giving us major Bottega vibes without the premium price tag.

The M&S flats are made from real leather and have an almost identical shiny patent finish, just like the designer pair, not to mention the similar gold hardware trim on the front that gives them the luxury look.

Leather is the perfect choice for trans-seasonal footwear, as it keeps feet warm and dry whilst still being comfortable and breathable enough to wear during warmer days.

A rounded toe and low heel make them perfect for everyday wearing, whilst the antibacterial padding also helps keep your shoes – and feet – fresh.

The Marks and Spencer’s Leather Trim Flat Loafers, £55 here, also come with Insolia Flex technology ensures the foot-aligning insoles help keep your feet comfortable so you can wear them all day long. The Insolia Flex keeps your foot correctly placed within your shoes, which helps improve the natural rotational movement of the ball of your foot making wearing flat shoes like loafers much comfier.

The loafers come in sizes 3-8 with half sizes of each available so you can get the perfect fit for you, and are part of M&S’ brand new autumn must-haves, with plenty of shoppers already snapping them up whilst on the look out for their perfect new-season purchase.

One review did advise they take a little bit of wearing in, which is often expected with real leather shoes. The review read: “Very hard leather so uncomfortable on first couple of wears. Used some leather softener spray to soften around the heel area. Otherwise a nice shoe.”

Alternatively, you could take a leaf out ofHailey Bieber’sbook, and style them with long socks which will help to protect your heels from rubbing whilst you break in your new loafers – and of course, don’t forget strategically blister plasters which prevent you from getting them in the first place.

If you prefer a faux leather loafer, H&M’s Chunky Loafers, £27.99 here, come in a whole host of different styles, with similar designer-inspired horse bit gold details on the front, or in a plain patent finish.
