Lilt listed for £100 on eBay by cheeky sellers as tropical drink is pulled from UK shelves – but would you buy it? | The Sun

CHEEKY sellers have been seen flogging Lilt on eBay for £100 after the drink was pulled from UK shelves.

Lilt lovers were left bitterly disappointed to discover that the iconic fizzy drink is being discontinued after 50 years.

Owners of the tropical tipple made the announcement on February 13, 2023.

The pineapple and grapefruit fizzy drink still exists, but has been re-branded as a new Fanta flavour by The Coca-Cola Company.

Since the announcement on Monday, devastated Lilt fans have shared their heartbreak over the loss of the tropical drink.

But one soda super-fan has taken the opportunity to cash in on the situation by listing a 500ml bottle on eBay for an eye-watering £100.

The bottle, which appears unopened, dons the summer-time favourite drink’s iconic font and logo.

And the passionate seller claims what they are offering is very rare and wants the new owner to enjoy the fruity taste for one last time.

They even dubbed the transfer of the products to Fanta, a “travesty.”

The listing reads: “Lilt grapefruit and pineapple drink. Totally tropical taste. The legendary drink has stopped production.

People are only just realising detail on Lilt cans hinting at drink’s future

“The last bottles before it disappears forever get your last taste of that lovely Lilt before it becomes a distant memory of the past.

“A delightful and refreshing taste brought to you by the Lilt man for over 50 years, the pineapple and grapefruit combination gives you that vibrancy and hint of Caribbean flavours.

“Absolute travesty this will be a Fanta line now, never forget Lilt and enjoy it one last time before it becomes history.

Coca-Cola first founded the fizzy drink in 1975, with the tagline: ''The Totally Tropical Taste''.

And it soon became a household name across the UK thanks to its advertising.

In the late 1980s, a television ad featured the "Lilt Man" – a parody of a milkman, delivering Lilt in a "Lilt float" on a Caribbean beach.

Martin Attock, CCEP GB VP of commercial development, explained that the main priority of the announcement is to "reassure Lilt’s loyal fanbase that absolutely nothing has changed when it comes to the iconic taste of the drink they know and love".

He said: “It’s still bursting with tangy tropical flavours. It’s just got itself a new name."
