I'm upset because my boyfriend and I don't live together even though we're both in our 50s

He is 59, I am just coming up to 55. We both live alone and I love him to bits. We were at school together and have been in a close relationship for almost a year. We have so much in common and get on so well.

There is nothing stopping us sharing a home of our own. He often stays the weekend and we see one another frequently. He said right from the start he wants a long-term relationship. I thought this would mean living together but he doesn’t see it that way.

It leaves me feeling worthless and really hurts.

DEIDRE SAYS: It is not unusual for couples in long-term relationships to have separate homes these days.

Stop taking his feeling about this as a judgement on you personally and look at it from a practical view.
Might you actually enjoy keeping your home the ordered place it probably now is rather than picking up after someone else?
Enjoy what you have now.
