I started drinking more around my birthday and now I can't stop

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M drinking too much and struggling to stop.

It started after my 30th birthday. My friends and I had lots planned, so I drank most nights for a few weeks.

I liked how confident three or four gins would make me feel.

But now I’m finding it hard to drop the habit.

Most days I have a couple of glasses of wine to give me the confidence to do my job.

I work in telephone sales, and calling strangers can sometimes be really daunting.

I’ve tried to boost my confidence in other ways but nothing works as well or as quickly.

The first thing to do is talk to your GP. They can offer guidance and may be able to arrange treatment.
