Gwen Stefani shoots down talk of engagement to Blake Shelton: ‘He’s my boyfriend still’

Blake Shelton understands the fascination over his relationship with Gwen Stefani, but he wishes it would calm down. 'In people's defense, I think it's so hard for people to wrap their head around why Gwen would want to be with me,' said Shelton. 'I don't blame 'em.'

Ellen DeGeneres did not have any luck tricking Jennifer Lopez into revealing she was engaged to boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, so the TV host moved to her next target: Gwen Stefani.

During Tuesday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the TV host told Stefani, 49,  that “Blake (Shelton) told me that y’all are engaged now.”

A surprised Stefani laughed off the matter. “No he didn’t,” she said. “No we’re not. No we’re not. No we’re not.”

DeGeneres continued to pry. “Yes, he told me you’re engaged. So let’s talk about that.” But the No Doubt alum stood her ground.

“What are you talking about?” Stefani exclaimed. “We’re not. We’re not engaged, and we’re not married. And he’s my boyfriend still.”

The questions did not stop there, even though Stefani would have preferred they did. DeGeneres asked “when will you get married?” and even encouraged the mother of three to pop the question herself.

“I don’t know,” Stefani answered. “Every time I come on here, I think it’s gonna be like, ‘I got this.’ But I don’t. I don’t. But I do like talking about him. He’s awesome.”

Like a pro, Stefani steered the conversation toward their joint song and recently released music video for “You Make It Feel Like Christmas.”

In the video, Stefani and Shelton, 42, exude old Hollywood glamour as they get in the holiday spirit in a romantic comedy-themed Christmas video featuring ball gowns, Santa Claus and a good old-fashioned food fight.

“It was really crazy because Blake actually hates doing music videos. Hates!” Stefani revealed. “I got him to do it, and his manager was like, ‘He’ll do it, but he’ll only do a performance thing.’ We just kept talking him into more and more and more.”

Stefani and Shelton have been dating for about three years. Stefani has three sons (Kingston, 12, Zuma, 10, and Apollo, 4) with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Shelton divorced country star Miranda Lambert in 2015.
