Do you find yourself exhausted in the mornings?
Or do you struggle to commit to a proper sleeping pattern?
Well, now one doctor has taken to TikTok to reveal the preferred time you should to go bed to wake up feeling rested and refreshed.
Dr Karan Raj shared his reasoning on the video sharing app in a clip that has now been viewed over 1.6 million times.
In the video which he captioned ’90-minute rule’, Dr Raj says: ‘Try this if you want to wake up feeling refreshed.’
‘Every night your brain moves through several sleep cycles,’ he explains. ‘Each cycle starts with light sleep, then you enter deep sleep, then dream, and back to light.
‘Each of these cycles is around 90 minutes. You feel most refreshed if you wake up at the end of one of these 90-minute cycles. That’s because you’re closest to your normal waking state and to increase the chances of this, first figure out what time you want to wake up.’
He then goes onto explain that if you decide you want to wake up at 8am, work backward in 90-minute blocks until you find a time closest to when you want to sleep.

For example, if you choose to wake up at 8am, it’s best to fall asleep somewhere between 11pm and 12.30am at night.
In the comments, Dr Raj added: ‘Won’t work for every single person because of fluctuations in the length of our sleep cycles but it’s a good rough target to aim for!’
Viewers were enlightened after viewing Dr Raj’s sleepy cycle video.
‘This is trippy because this morning I was literally thinking about how I cannot deal with how challenging every morning is and what I can do to solve,’ said one follower.
While another commented: ‘That’s crazy, was wondering why I can have 6 hours or 7.5 hours and feel great. Yet if I have 8-8.5 hours I feel terrible.’
Will you try the 90-minute rule?
