August 7th:On this Day 52 years ago (1972)German’s blasted for silence on attack

The 11 victims were held hostage by Palestinian terrorists during the Munich Olympics.

An official announcement declared that nine hostages had escaped during a rescue bid at an airfield outside the city when, in fact, they had been killed, along with a German policeman.

71 years ago (1952)

A military coup led by Egypt’s General Mohamed Naguib removed Prime Minister Aly Maher Pasha and abolished the monarchy under King Farouk and his son Fu’ad II.

Two years later Naguib was deposed by Colonel Abdel Nasser.

27 years ago (1996)

American rapper Tupac Shakur was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting after watching heavyweight champion Mike Tyson defeat Bruce Seldon in a boxing match at the MGM Grand
in Las Vegas.

Shakur died from his injuries six days later at the University Medical Center Southern Nevada.

His murder was linked to gang rivalries but the identity of his killer remains unknown.
