The Check Print Trend Is Dominating My Whole IG Feed—And Prob Yours Too

If you’ve been on Instagram, like, at all this year you’ve probably noticed a certain check print popping up over and over and over…and over again. But I’m talking about a very specific check pattern; It’s not plaid, not gingham, and certainly not buffalo check. The difference being that with this specific print there are only two colors, like a racing flag or a chess board (shoutout to all my Queen’s Gambit fans) or your classic pair of Vans slip-ons. Need visuals? Just look at the runways and street-style stars for some pretty examples.

It was on the Fall/Winter 2020 runways and continued into Spring/Summer 2021 shows, so you know it’s only going to gain steam with the warmer months ahead. Brands like Paloma Wool, KJ Plumb, Kkco, Tyler McGillivary, Gimaguas, Holiday the Label, Lisa Says Gah! and more have embraced the print and added twists to them like warping the squares for an illusion effect or distorting them into other shapes.

Plus, the checkerboard effect is so prevalent that it’s gone way beyond fashion. It’s even infiltrated home goods like rugs, coffee mugs, towels, plates, quilts, pillows—you name it. Just feast your eyeballs on this whole dang room!

IDK about you, but there’s something so satisfying about the contrasting colors?! Every time I see something checkered in my IG feed, I stare at it for a good five seconds and think, Wow, yep, I need that. So I rounded up tons of things featuring the pattern that people (including myself) can’t get enough of to make your shopping journey easier.
