Elle Fanning knows how to make a red carpet look uniquely her own. Here we look at her most iconic outfits.
Elle Fanning is known for her trademark ethereal aesthetic. From her mischievous pixie-like smirk to her snow white skin, she radiates a fairytale-like quality which she often plays up to with the fantastical outfits she chooses.
And there could be no time more appropriate to dial up the princess-factor than at the premiere for the Maleficent sequel, which stars Fanning as Princess Aurora.
Emulating a nymph that could have floated onto the red carpet straight out of a mythical woodland, Fanning stunned fans in a floor-length, foliage-green gown by Gucci. The dress was adorned with drooping blooms in muted pastel tones and even featured a stream of crimson ribbons from the sleeves to symbolise the princess’s pricked finger.
Fanning posted an image of herself at the premiere on her Instagram, along with a tribute to the team behind the film and her look on the day.
“Well… well… At age 14 I received a phone call that changed my life. I was cast as the Sleeping Beauty to Angelina Jolie’s iconic Maleficent. Premiering the sequel last night made me feel all the feels. Standing proud with two women I look up to in every way, knowing we created three powerful characters who use their strength in different ways. I still have goosebumps!” she wrote.
Fanning continued: “AND an endless thank you to Alessandro Michele and the Gucci family for designing a dress fit for a fairytale, right down to Aurora’s bloody finger prick. It’s all in the details. Disney magic was all around us. Thank you Samantha McMillen for your vision and Jenda Alcorn for making me look like I slept in a field of flowers and Erin Ayanian Monroe for your glowing pre-raphaelite makeup.”
This isn’t the first time Fanning has opted for a look that feels inspired by magic. Exaggerated femininity is a staple part of her style, with many of her red carpet looks featuring deliciously over-the-top touches like huge bows, Barbie-esque pinks and an onslaught of florals.
Here are some of our favourite fashion moments from the actor, all showing off her unique style.
