BBC Breakfast presenter Steph McGovern has confirmed that she is expecting her first child with her girlfriend.
The 37-year-old, who is BBC Breakfast’s main business presenter, announced the happy news on Twitter, joking about the time she previously denied pregnancy speculation by explaining she had a ‘pot belly’.
The presenter tweeted: ‘I see my news is out! Yep, I am no longer with pot belly……I am now with child. #babyonboard’.
Here’s what you need to know about Steph, her partner and her pregnancy.
Who is Steph McGovern’s girlfriend?
The name of Steph’s girlfriend has not been revealed but she is a TV executive.
A source told The Sun that the couple would be keeping Steph’s pregnancy private, saying: ‘Steph and her girlfriend are absolutely thrilled.
‘Everyone at the Beeb is delighted too – she is one of the most popular faces on and off the red sofa.
‘But she won’t be doing any magazine shoots any time soon – she values her privacy too much.’
When is Steph McGovern’s baby due?
Steph has reportedly told family and friends that her baby is due in November.
She is said to have also ‘suffered really badly with morning sickness’ – at one point throwing up just minutes before she was due on air.
News of Steph’s pregnancy comes over a year after she was forced to deny to fans that she was expecting.
‘For those who are congratulating me on my “pregnancy”. I am not “with child”, I am ‘with pot belly’ she joked, following the message with a pig emoji.
Steph later said said: ‘I’d definitely be in the wrong job if I got offended by comments like that. Even my own auntie asked me once if I was pregnant after seeing me on the telly – that’s just life on camera.
‘I just decided to tweet a reply about it because I’d had a run of a few celebratory tweets and I wanted to clarify I wasn’t and get in there before my boss started arranging my maternity cover!’
As well as BBC Breakfast Steph has been increasingly busy with other projects of late.
As well as being one of the presenters of Watchdog alongside Matt Allwright and Nikki Fox, she’s fronted the TV show Shop Well For Less, as well as CBBC’s Pocket Money Pitch, in which young entrepreneurs bid to win a year’s pocket money to get their business ideas off the ground.
Steph is also involved in BBC community projects including BBC Outreach and BBC School Report – and has also previously been a guest host on Have I Got News For You.
