The year 2020 ended up being a pretty big one for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The NFL star started 2020 off right by winning the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, which happened to be the first Super Bowl win for the Chiefs in 50 years (via TIME). The MVP then proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, in September, and the couple announced in October that they are expecting their first child together (via TODAY). With wedding plans and the baby due in the spring, according to the Daily Mail, the couple have another exciting year ahead. Though, you might be wondering who exactly is Brittany Matthews?
Well, according to Business Insider, the 25-year-old mom-to-be met Mahomes when they were in high school. They both attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, and were each other’s prom dates in 2013 (via Instagram). Matthews is also an athlete, and after graduating high school, she went on to play soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler. When Mahomes attended Texas Tech University, the two didn’t let the long distance come between them. They even continued to stay together while Matthews played professional soccer in Iceland after graduating.
Brittany Matthews now owns her own fitness company
The cute couple eventually reunited when Matthews moved to Kansas City in 2017, and some would say the rest is history. With a baby on the way, though, there’s still so much to look forward to. Brittany Matthews is now a fitness influencer, who used her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology to start her own company, Brittany Lynne Fitness, in 2019. She even continues to safely workout while pregnant, according to People, and responded to critics saying she is “listening to [her] body, and just keeping it moving.”
Matthews has also been preparing for the baby to come by decorating their nursery with stars and pink accents that she shared on her Instagram Story (via People). She even held a perfectly pink baby shower in December with friends, family, and a giant balloon arch in attendance that she shared to Instagram (via People). Matthews has also been caring for her fiancé, after Patrick Mahomes suffered from a concussion following a game against the Cleveland Browns. Now that Mahomes has been cleared to play against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship on Sunday, according to ESPN, you can expect to see Matthews cheering him on like she always does.
