The new progressive warrior everyone has needed? Attendees at Jack Antonoff’s Ally Coalition fundraising event in New York last night seem like they thought Hayley Kiyoko was teasing when she announced that her new friend Taylor Swift was nervous about performing at the town hall. Then Taylor walked out and the young audience at the benefit for the LGBTQ youth organization cheered loudly … many apparently in disbelief.
Taylor performed her hit “Delicate” for the assembled crowd, and Hayley provided harmony on the song. When it was done, Taylor and Hayley shared not one but two seemingly heart-felt hugs as the audience erupted.
After years of avoiding any overtly political causes, Taylor has recently let her political views be known. She supported progressive candidates in the U.S. midterm elections. And now she seems comfortable openly showing her support for an organization that tries to create broad-based support for marginalized and at-risk LGBTQ youth.
In addition to Taylor and Hayley, Lana Del Rey, Mitski and a number of other indie artists also showed up to lend their voices to the effort.
We have some video of Taylor and Hayley performing below.
