Rachel Platten Gets Candid About Struggle With Postpartum Anxiety After Second Child’s Birth

In a lengthy post she shared on social media, the ‘Fight Song’ hitmaker explains that she does not want other mothers out there to experience the same feelings of shame, loneliness and fear.

AceShowbiz -Singer Rachel Platten has revealed she is struggling with postpartum anxiety again after welcoming her second child with husband Kevin Lazan last month (September 2021).

The “Fight Song” hitmaker shared a lengthy post to Instagram on Tuesday, October 26, admitting that she was suffering from the condition after giving birth to Sophie Jo, just as she did with her two-year-old, Violet Skye.

“I did not want to write this post. In fact, i hid from social media for 2 months because of it. But here it is, i have postpartum anxiety again,” she wrote, alongside a photo of her holding baby Sophie. “I thought, I’ll share about it when I’m ‘better.’ I’ll have a really powerful story about how i overcame it. And everyone will think oh she’s so strong bla bla.”

“But f**k that. i don’t want one other single mother out there to experience the same feelings of shame, loneliness, and fear that i did if maybe reading about my story NOW can help you [sic]. Because this can be hell if you think you’re alone.”

Platten believes mothers don’t open up enough about postpartum – and that’s why it’s so shocking to new mums. “Believe me, I also want to post pictures of my beautiful newborn Sophie, and tell you stories about what an incredibly loving big sister violet is,” she added. “Or about how much joy i get breastfeeding her and watching her learn to smile.”

But she’s on a “daily mental rollercoaster.”

“A wave of irrational worry or fear or depression comes and it can knock me over if i don’t use all of my tools: compassion for myself is the biggest,” Rachel shared, adding she also relies on breath work, meditation, exercise, acupuncture, and therapy, as well as “tremendous support and vulnerability and courage to ride these waves.”

Famous friends were quick to offer their support, with Hilary Duff writing, “I love when you crack yourself open and share. You are beautifully brave and dem (them) babies lucky they got a good mama with so much love [sic].”

Former “Austin & Ally” star Laura Marano added, “Love you so, so much thank you for sharing this… I hope you know this post not only helps moms going through the same thing, but anyone who’s going through a hard time who needed to hear about the tools you’re using to continue to ride the wave. You’re amazing and so loved and appreciated.”

In 2020, the singer revealed she was severely depressed after Violet was born and was having panic attacks for the first time. At the time, she credited her husband for being strong enough to “sit there… while I’m going through what I’m going through.”
