Prince Philip Reportedly Was Intrigued By These Unusual Phenomena

Throughout his many decades in the public eye, Prince Philip was an especially interesting figure that amassed quite a deal of curiosity from fans of the royal family.

The Duke of Edinburgh had a truly fascinating life – from his incredible family lineage to his 73 year marriage to the Queen of England, the royal was certainly extraordinary (via the Irish Times). However, as it turns out, you might not know as much about the late prince as you thought you did. Sources say that he was interested in something that no one would have ever expected, and that he dedicated quite a bit of his life to understanding it as best he could.

Philip was fascinated by UFOs and extraterrestrial life. He was even subscribed to Flying Saucer Review, a quarterly magazine established in 1955 that claims to be the “leading and longest established international journal dealing with UFOs and all aspects of alien encounters,” (via the UK Metro). He also began collecting things to further entertain his secret hobby.

Prince Philip's former assistant wrote about having a bizarre interaction with an alien

According to The Sun, it was his uncle Lord Mountbatten who first piqued the Prince Philip’s interest in extraterrestrials. Mountbatten wrote a report about allegedly witnessing an alien landing on his Broadlands estate in Romsey, Hampshire in 1955.

Fortunately for Philip, he had a close relationship with his former assistant, Sir Peter Horsley, who was a senior Royal Air Force commander, per Page Six. By virtue of his position, Horsley had access to confidential information pertaining to UFOs and alien encounters, which Philip ultimately ended up giving him a “carte blanche” to collect and share with him.

Horsley wrote about a close encounter with some sort of being, which he called an “alien,” in London in 1954. Is his 1997 autobiography Sounds From Another Room, he wrote that the alien was called “Mr. Janus” and that it could read his mind. “He didn’t say he was a visitor from another planet — but I had that impression,” he wrote. “I believe he was here to observe us. I never saw him again. I have no qualms about the reaction to my experience with Mr. Janus.” He added that the alien had requested to meet Philip, whom he described as a “man of great vision.”
