Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are currently presenting the ITV show This Morning for the summer. However, when thanking viewers for their support, the broadcaster shared a subtle dig at ITV.

The presenter posted a cryptic comment about the channel on his Twitter earlier today.

Eamonn had taken to social media to share his excitement at speaking to William Shatner.

He posted: “Get to interview my all time hero Captain Kirk @WilliamShatner on #ThisMorning today. He didn’t disappoint.

“Me and Nurse Chapell @RuthieeL reporting for duty from 10 am. #StarTrek Live long and Prosper.”

In response, one viewer reached out to the broadcaster about how much they love him being back on the show.

They penned to the star: “I hope you, Ruth and @thismorning get to see the overwhelming response you’ve received for being back on our screens?”

Eamonn thanked the fan but couldn’t resist sharing a small dig at ITV at the same time.

He penned in view of his one million followers: “Thank you to everyone who has got in touch and we are humbled but it’s not us that needs to see it.”

While the presenter didn’t go into any more detail in his tweet, some fans aired their hope the producers of the show would take note.

Eamonn and Ruth were replaced in their Friday slot last year by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

They’d been presenting the last instalment of the week since 2006 but are now only called in during school holidays.

At the time, the couple said in a statement: “It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January.

“We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a ball you two!

“It’s not goodbye from us, it’s simply au revoir until the next half term.”

However, Eamonn also made a cheeky comment about this when presenting before Christmas.

Eamonn was speaking about Christmas trees being discounted when Ruth said: “Well they’re struggling to get rid of them I suppose aren’t they?”

“I would say so, darling, I would say that’s an obvious conclusion!” replied Eamonn.

“Which is why they’re getting rid of us on a Friday after all this sort of chat.”

Ruth laughed off the moment as she told him to “stop it!”

Eamonn and Ruth are hosting This Morning for the rest of the summer.
