Singer and actress Michelle Williams has been tapped to portray the legendary Diana Ross in an upcoming period drama American Soul.
Bobby Brown, Gabrielle Dennis, McKinley Freeman and K. Michelle will also be joining the cast of the series.
Brown will play Rufus Thomas, who was best known for the classic soul song “Do the Funky Chicken,” while Dennis will play Tina Turner, Freeman will portray Ike Turner and Michelle will play R&B singer Martha Reeves of Martha and the Vandellas.
American Soul is an upcoming American drama television series created by Jonathan Prince and Devon Greggory that is set to premiere on BET. It tells the story of Don Cornelius and his groundbreaking ’70s television show Soul Train.
The series is set to premiere with back-to-back episodes on February 5 at 9 PM ET/PT on BET in the U.S., before rolling out globally across BET International’s linear channels in the UK, France, South Africa and South Korea, beginning February 7.
As previously announced, Sinqua Walls plays a young Don Cornelius, while other regular cast members include Kelly Price, Jason Dirden, Iantha Richardson, Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol, and Jelani Winston.
