Messy Bun to Sleek and Straight: See Meghan Markle's Hairstyle Evolution

From the start of her romance with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has stuck to a standard: wearing her locks in loose waves. The laid-back look has been worn to some pretty major events – it’s how she wore her hair for their couple debut at the Invictus Games in Toronto and the style she chose for her first solo outing with Queen Elizabeth.

One of the Duchess of Sussex’s signature styles is the loose low bun. She loves the look – which pulls her hair back in a casual way, leaving out pieces to frame her face – so much, she even chose it for her wedding day!

When she’s not rocking a bun but wants to pull her hair back, Meghan turns to the classic ponytail. She opts to place it low and hide the band by wrapping it with a strand of hair, as seen during her visit to the Hubb Community Center in November.

In another take on her go-to low bun, Meghan pulls back all her hair instead of leaving some loose pieces in front. It’s one of her most popular styles, especially when she’s on the job.

Meghan has only worn this style occasionally, but we love this romantic look! For a trip to the Macarthur Girls High School in Australia, she opted for a classy half-up ponytail with loose waves.

Meghan usually opts for a bit of a wave, but she nails the straight look too. Her former hairstylist in London previously revealed to PEOPLE that although the royal naturally has “beautiful curls,” she undergoes keratin treatments to manage her mane.

In a break from her usual style, Meghan stepped out for a visit to the Association of Commonwealth Universities with her hair in a high bun reminiscent of a certain Disney princess.

There’s nothing like a good blowout. Meghan went with the classic look for her photocall with Prince Harry after announcing their engagement.

The former actress went back to her roots with Veronica Lake-inspired waves for 100 Days to Peace, a gala music evening marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Prince Charles’ 70th birthday bash called for an elegant updo – after all, she needed to show off those stunning diamond earrings!

Meghan added a surprise romantic twist to her updo in Fiji. Tucked into her polished ‘do were Frangipani flowers, native to Fiji. The yellow and white fragrant blooms added a whimsical touch to her island look and perfectly complimented her pink printed ruffle dress by Figue.
