Mark Wright shares Mallorca apartment woes after builders ‘try to cut corners’

Mark Wright has shared his Mallorca apartment woes after he claims builders “tried to cut corners” on renovation work.

The TOWIE star, 36, had hoped to have some work done on a flat he owns in Mallorca but has been forced to finish the job off himself after not being happy with the work done by builders he “didn’t know”.

With work on the property not going to plan, Mark got his own new team on hand and drove their tools to the apartment from the UK – with the journey taking two days.

Mark left wife Michelle Keegan back at home in Essex as he posted to Instagram and shared the process of driving a van all the way to the Spanish island to fix the work.

Opening up on the “nightmare”, Mark said: “There was just lots of problems that were created, they tried to cut corners.

“So then I spoke to another company and the price wasn’t matching up with what I had in mind, and I just thought, DIY, got to sort it myself.”

Mark spoke about his lengthy journey to Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Heart Breakfast, explaining how he’d decided to take the building work into his own hands.

He told the presenters: “Trust me it’s a drive! I left two days ago. It’s a long old drive.

“What makes it longer is the fact that it’s an island. If it was just Barcelona it would be fine, you have to get the ferry which is seven hours, but it ends up being 10 because we’ve been sat here for an hour docked not getting off.”

Mark and Michelle bought the apartment in Mallorca last year with hopes of turning it into a holiday home, but with the building work still underway, it looks like they’ll have to wait a while before they can relax in their new abode.

Luckily for the couple, who got married in 2015, they recently finished renovation work on their main home in Essex.

Originally purchased for £1.3 million back in 2019,the renovations themselves are thought to have more than doubled the value of the original property, with the stunning home now worth in the region of at least £3.5million.

In keeping with their own personal sense of style, Mark and Michelle have opted for a neutral colour palette throughout the home, with various shades of brown, taupe and bronze adding warmth to the otherwise white walls.

The couple recently shared some snaps of the interior of the home, showing off the minimalist furniture. Sharing the photos to Instagram, they wrote: "Here we go as promised, some interiors.

"We wanted to use a company that could supply the majority of stuff, allowing us to get everything through the same company for ease reasons."

Some fans, however, were left less than impressed with the home, with one writing: "All A bit too beige for my liking." And a second added: "Each to their own but a bit of colour would be welcome here and there."

Another argued: "In our home we have ornaments we’ve collected on holidays over the years, things that are personal to us. NOT someone coming in and styling our house to look like a show house."
