Kate Ferdinand launches support platform after feeling ‘isolated’ as a stepmum

Kate Ferdinand has announced she's launching a support platform for blended families after she felt 'isolated' after becoming a stepmum.

Former TOWIE star Kate, 30, shares baby son Cree with her footballer husband Rio Ferdinand as well as being stepmum to his other children Lorenz, 15, Tate, 13, and Tia, 10, from his marriage to his late wife Rebecca Ellison.

Rio's first wife Rebecca sadly passed away in 2015, two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing a double mastectomy.

Having admitted she struggled after becoming a new stepmum, Kate has announced she's launching a platform called Blended – a network for families meshed together by "a break up, fostering, adopting or loss".

Posting to Instagram, Kate explained: "As you all know we are a blended family, I am a step mum to my 3 beautiful big kids Lorenz, Tate & Tia who unfortunately lost their mum at a very young age, & now a biological mum to our beautiful blessing Cree; the icing on the cake to our extra special family.

"Being a step mum to 3 children who have been through so much & a husband whose wife passed away brings a unique set of challenges. There have been many times I have been left feeling lost, confused and not sure where to turn.

"When I first became a stepparent I felt very isolated & alone, I just didn’t know who to talk to. As my journey continues I’ve realised there is a real need for a place to connect & get advice from people going through similar experiences. I am definitely not a guru, this is as much for me and it is for you guys."

Ending the message, Kate added: "So here we have it @blended a safe space for us to all share our blended family experiences and support each other along this journey.

"I’m hoping to share some personal experiences along the way as well as help and advice from professionals. There will also be lots of discussions, general chit chat & quotes to make us feel better."

It comes after the star recently admitted she'd been struggling to get everything done and was finding getting the work-life balance in her life right tricky.

Posting a gallery of photos of family life, Kate penned: "Time seems to be going so quickly the last few weeks, it’s so crazy! For anyone else struggling with the juggle of life you are not alone!

Trying my best to be a good mum, wife, keep up with messages, remain fit, healthy & work is proving near on impossible! Something always has to give."
