Jonnie Irwin says he is ‘a lot weaker’ as he provides a health update amid his terminal cancer battle
Jonnie Irwin revealed he is ‘a lot weaker’ as he took to Instagram to share a health update with his fans on Monday.
The A Place In The Sun host, 49, posted a sweet snap as he cycled his three sons, Rex, three, and twins Rafa and Corma, two, along in an electric cart bike.
The television personality is bravely battling the terminal disease after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, which has since spread to his brain.
The presenter detailed how easy the Cargo Bike is to use because he isn’t ‘strong enough’ to cart his children around on a normal bike.
Jonnie wrote: ‘Since delivery of our @babboe_cargobike it’s been out most days.

‘I’m obviously a lot weaker these days and would never be strong enough to cart these ankle biters around but with electric power assistance I can pretty much go anywhere.
‘The boys love it and it’s made the nursery run fun ( if I’m up in time) it’s probably cut our car use by about 50 per cent.
‘So obviously much greener so hopefully making up for some of the naughty motors in my past.’
Jonnie shares his three sons with his wife Jessica Holmes and the couple have chosen not to tell their children about his diagnosis.
Despite Jonnie’s decline in health, he has stayed committed and motivated to his ‘obsession’ with property and travel, which is written in his Instagram bio.
As the TV personality recently teased a return to work as he shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse last week.
Jonnie appeared on BBC Morning Live earlier this month to give fans a health update and talk about the importance of palliative care.
He told hosts Helen Skelton and Geth Jones: ‘I’m really good, I have up days and down days but today is an up day. Family are great and very noisy.’

Speaking about the hospice he’s been using, Jonnie said: ‘It is a delight, it’s like a nice private hospital. My perception of a hospice was a boiling hot room and loads of people who look frail and towards the end of their days.
‘This is nothing of the sort, it is spacious, lots of energy, comfortable. It even has a jacuzzi bath and en-suite rooms, the staff are amazing, so I’ve had a really good experience.’
Offering advice to others, Jonnie said: ‘First of all embrace it, I was given the choice initially of what hospital I wanted to use. My first experience of palliative care in a hospice was blood transfusions. I had my first one in hospital and then I was invited to use the hospice, so I thought I’d give it a go.
‘I went into a lovely room, biscuits piled up beside me and I just dipped in and out. I implore people to check out the hospice if you have the choice to use it then use it.’
Palliative care offers physical, emotional and practical support to people with a terminal illness. It can be offered at any point after a terminal diagnosis.
Jonnie previously admitted that the pain can get so bad that he seeks solace at a hospice, unwilling to let his family see him suffer.
Speaking to Hello! magazine , he explained: ‘I remove myself on a number of occasions because I’m not good to be around when I’m in pain.
‘I’m like a bear with a sore head and I don’t want them to be around that.’
Discussing his death, the dad-of-three added: ‘It can happen at any time. I’m here to stop it for as long as possible.’
The presenter also discussed his decision to keep the cancer battle a secret from his children.
‘I keep being asked, ‘Are you going to tell them?’ but tell them what? It would be horrible news that they’d have to get their heads around,’ he said.
‘And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he’s got a shocking enough day coming. Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible.’
