Opening Monday's This Morning, Holly Willoughby shared an emotional statement about her former co-presenter Phillip Schofield, as she addressed the scandal that emerged after he confessed to having an affair with a much younger colleague.
After Phillip's departure, it was announced that Holly would be taking an extended half-term break. During this time Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary stepped in to host the show, with Craig Doyle stepping in twice as Dermot enjoyed a couple of days off to celebrate his birthday.
And on her return today, Holly was joined by Josie Gibson, with some viewers thinking it will be one of these four – Alison, Dermot, Josie and Craig – who could permanently take over from Phil.
Addressing Phillip's departure from the show, Holly began: "Deep breath – firstly, are you OK? I hope so.
"It feels very strange sitting here without Phil and I imagine you might be feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what's been going on, and full of questions.
"You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process."
She went on to discuss the toll that recent events have had on the mental health of those involved, before adding that the This Morning "family" will continue to "work hard" on the show.
She said: "And from my own heart, can I just say thank you for all of your kind messages and thank you for being here this morning. Myself, Josie, Dermot, Alison and Craig and every single person on this show will continue to work hard every single day to bring you the show that we love."
Fans believe that it is one of these four stars who will soon join Holly on the sofa permanently – although there is something of a divide among viewers when it comes to deciding who it should be.
One viewer tweeted: "Normally Josie isn't my favourite but strangely her and Holly work well together #ThisMorning".
Another viewer agreed saying: "I am very much enjoying today's episode with Holly and Josie. They work well together."
However, another argued: "#thismorning really not feeling #HollyWilloughby and Josie. Bring back Craig Doyle and Dermot."
"Id still rather see craig n josie on the couch #thismorning" added another.
