No one is relishing the comfort of sisterhood more than I’m A Celebrity: South Africa favourite Helen Flanagan since she’s been back from the jungle, as it’s claimed she’s been turning to her single gal pals for relationship advice.
According to sources close to the former Coronation Street actress, 32, the mother-of-three has been leaning on former Countdown mathematician and I’m A Celeb campmate Carol Vorderman, 62, since her split from footballer fiancé Scott Sinclair last year.
“Helen told Carol on the show that she and Scott had split up, but asked her to keep it a secret,” they told OK! . “It really brought the two of them close together. And Carol had lots of advice for her on being a single parent.”
Helen and Bristol Rovers winger Scott, 34 – who share daughters Matilda, seven, and Delilah, four, as well as two-year-old son Charlie – announced their decision to part ways in October, but Helen recently revealed in her exclusive break-up interview with OK! that they’d actually called it quits in July, just weeks before she filmed the South African edition of the popular ITV1 series.
“I did wear my engagement ring when I was in the jungle. We’d only just broken up,” Helen said last week.
“And I didn’t want everyone to be asking, ‘Where’s your ring?’. I wanted to keep it private for the kids, I didn’t want to be talking about it on the show. I did find that difficult, because I had all that going on in my head.”
Viewers of Ant and Dec’s jungle hit have been watching Helen grow close to mum-of-two Carol over the past week.
Our source adds that since the pre-recorded series wrapped up in September, the soap star has frequently relied on the two-time divorcée for advice when doubting whether she and Scott made the right decision to end things after 13 years together.
Carol – who is mum to daughter Katie, 32, and son Cameron, 26, with second husband Patrick King – is said to be more than happy to answer the phone whenever she can to offer her new friend guidance about the complexities of single motherhood.
“They’ve remained good friends since filming ended and see each other regularly,” our source says. “Helen sees Carol in a motherly role, and knows she can rely on her for some words of wisdom if she’s having a tough day.”
Also offering Helen support as she navigates her way through the dating pool is newly single Christine McGuinness.
Another source close to Helen told OK! that the star has “a lot in common” with fellow mother-of-three Christine, 35 – who split from TV presenter husband Paddy in July 2022 after 15 years together – and that the duo have become “friendly” since breaking up with their other halves.
“Helen has met her a few times,” they said. “It’s difficult when you’ve got things going on in the public eye. Not many people know what that feels like, but Christine obviously does.”
Both Christine and Carol have publicly demonstrated their support of Helen following her turbulent year. On an Instagram snap promoting her interview with OK! , the duo each dubbed her “beautiful” in the comment section, and on a video posted from Loose Women – which showed the star discussing her recent I’m A Celebrity venture – Carol wrote, “I love my Helen”.
Our source added that though the former couple are on “great terms” – with Helen’s sportsman ex Scott reportedly “loving watching her on the show” and having “messaged a couple of times joking about the trials” – Helen is feeling the full strength of girl power right now, knowing she can always turn to her fellow single ladies for support.
