The co-founder of the Rolling Loud festival claimed they had no idea Offset was going to come out during Cardi B’s set to beg her to take him back.
“We were told she was going to have a guest star during her set, that it was going to be Migos, but we didn’t know anything about that stunt,” the festival’s co-founder Tariq Cherif told the Los Angeles Times.
On Saturday, Cardi’s estranged husband, Offset, crashed her set at the Los Angeles festival to beg her to take him back. At one point he grabbed a mic and said, “I just want to tell you I’m sorry, babe.”
Despite what the 27-year-old may have hoped would happen, the gesture seemed to backfire. Cardi, 26, looked noticeably uncomfortable during the encounter and fans were angry at the Migos member for interrupting her set, some going as far as to label the incident harassment.
The backlash has been so loud, that Cherif looked to distance his festival from the “stunt” completely, appearing to shift the blame to Cardi’s team in the process.
“We’re getting blamed as if we conspired to do this, and I just want to make it clear that we did not,” he told the paper. “Cardi’s management was in on it, it had nothing to do with the festival. The artist is in full control of the stage and they determine who gets on and off.”
Still, a since-deleted tweet from the festival’s official account hints they may have known that more than a simple Migos guest performance was going to occur. A screen grab of the tweet, which has been circulating on social media, reads, “Whatever happens tonight on the @audiomack stage, it’s going viral. Make sure you’re there tonight for Bardi.”
In the meantime, Cardi took to Instagram Live to let fans know the incident was not staged, despite what many of them seem to think. She also came to the defense of her publicist, who has been accused of orchestrating the entire moment.
“Fan or not, you talk about my publicist/friend you can eat a d–k period,” she said in the vid.
Earlier this month, Cardi confirmed she and Offset split after little more than a year of marriage. They welcomed daughter Kulture over the summer.
