Former footballer Ashley Cain has shared a heartbreaking clip of his late daughter Azaylia Diamond as reveals that he's given up on Christmas following the tragic loss of his daughter, who passed away at just eight months old, after a short battle with leukaemia.
Ashley, 32, took to Instagram to share the clip of his and Azaylia's "first conversation", which sees the sportsman beaming at the camera as he says "excuse moi" to his daughter who is on a baby mat surrounded by soft toys.
Baby Azaylia then laughs at her father who tells the camera: "That's the best Christmas present ever. Omg."
Captioning the clip, Ashley writes: "Throwback to the best Christmas present ever – our first conversation.
"Giving up my Christmases going forward is ok, because the memories from this one will last me a lifetime. Azaylia – Your life will continue to change the world my angel."
Ashley's ex-partner, and mother to Azaylia, Safiyya Vorajee, commented on the clip, writing: "My beautiful baby I love you so much Azaylia the best Christmas I will ever have was with you princess."
Both Ashley and Safiyya have spoken openly about coping with their tragic loss, and have set up The Azaylia Foundation, which aims to advance early diagnosis and new treatment availability in the UK to help fight childhood cancer.
Ashley recently appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about his completion of a 1700 mile cycling tour through Europe to raise money for the charity.
And speaking to hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard he said: “When people ask me if these challenges are hard, I have to tell them, it’s not hard. Every single night visiting your daughter at a cemetery, that's hard."
He heartbreakingly added: "It was my birthday on Tuesday, I spent the morning with a fold-out chair sitting in the rain eating my breakfast at her resting place – that's hard.”
The former reality TV star went on to reveal that he will be keeping his beard forever due to Azaylia’s love for it. He said: “She used to love this beard, she used to latch onto it.
“She used to rub her toes and her feet through it and when we lost Azaylia, I pledged to keep the beard because she’s touched these very hairs on my face.
"And it’s something that I wanna keep with me for the rest of my life, cause in a way I believe that it’s a form of my strength and it’ll help me push through.”
