All the details from Aston Merrygold’s wedding, from matching Vans to pampas grass

When it came to their wedding day, Aston Merrygold and Sarah Richards certainly pulled out all the stops.

From a shisha tent and a photo wall to matching Vans and pampas grass bouquets, every detail of their beautiful big day had been carefully thought out.

A total of 155 guests were in attendance to watch the couple become husband and wife, with the ceremony and reception taking place in the stunning Palm House in Sefton Park in Liverpool on 18 September.

The giant glass dome is filled with palm trees and exotic plants and provided the perfect backdrop for their union, with the couple then adding a series of extravagant pampas grass floral features and an arch for their ceremony, which was exclusively covered by OK!.

The aisle was also lined with clusters of candles, while their tables were decorated with smaller pampas grass bouquets and open birdcages to hold sharing platters of food including prawn toast, duck spring rolls, chilli chicken, tempura prawns, scallops and fishcakes.

Meanwhile each guest table was named after a special memory from Sarah and Aston’s relationship history, written out in Friends-style episodes, “The One Where…”.

The starters were followed by a main of Thai green curry and rice before guests tucked into apple pie – Aston’s favourite – for dessert.

For their tipple, guests were given bottles of Miraval rose wine, which is owned by Hollywood actor Brad Pitt and previously his former wife Angelina Jolie.

The couple’s sons had also been catered to, with mini tepees erected and filled with Marvel cushions and popcorn boxes.

Grayson, four, and Macaulay, two, couldn’t have looked cuter in their matching tuxedos, which were teamed with black and white Vans trainers.

“Sometimes kids don’t like getting dressed so we made such a big thing about their suits and made it into a bit of a game,” Aston says.

“They were so wired and excited when we were getting ready, but then Macaulay fell asleep in the car on the way to the venue,” he adds with a laugh.

The nuptials also boasted a star-studded guest list, with Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon and her partner Azuka Ononye in attendance, as well as Aston’s former Got To Dance co-star and Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and her model husband Max Rogers.

Aston’s JLS bandmates were of course also there to watch their close friend tie the knot, with JB Gill officiating the ceremony, Marvin Humes a groomsman and Oritsé Williams watching on.

Aston and dancer Sarah began dating 10 years ago after meeting during rehearsals for a JLS tour.

They got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2017 and admit they struggled to find the right wedding venue before stumbling upon the Palm House.

And after their big day finally came around, Sarah says she didn’t want it to end, with the celebrations continuing until 1:30am and fireworks lighting up the sky above the city as The Greatest Show from The Greatest Showman played.

“The party was pure joy,” says Sarah. “I felt like I was just bouncing up and down for three hours. We didn’t even cut our cake until near the end.

“The venue let us push it an hour later because we were behind with the day.

"Aston told me I wasn’t allowed to chase the night, but I didn’t want it to end!”

“That’s my ruling for life,” Aston adds. “Always end on a high.”
