Man shot dead in Dublin in killing 'which may be linked to gang feud'

The victim, who was in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene in Blanchardstown on Saturday evening.

The area was sealed off for a forensic examination and the state pathologist has been informed.

Irish police have appealed for witnesses to the shooting, which took place at Blakestown Cottages at about 6.50pm.

Irish media reported that the victim may have been connected to the Kinahan cartel – one of several criminal organisations said to be fighting for control of the drugs trade in the Irish Republic.

Another is the Hutch group, which is alleged to be in a feud with the Kinahan cartel.

The Irish Times said the victim was closely associated with people linked to the Kinahan group.

The paper said the dead man lived on the road where he was shot and his remains were left at the scene overnight pending the arrival of the pathologist.

A Volkswagen Jetta was found burned out in nearby Clonee, the Irish Times said.
