Jamie Oliver's 20-year career celebrated by Channel 4 amid restaurant collapse

Jamie Oliver is to be celebrated with a tribute show on Channel 4 to mark the 20th anniversary of The Naked Chef – despite his restaurant chain collapsing just weeks ago.

20 Years Of The Naked Chef: Jamie Bares All, will be fronted by Davina McCall to mark the milestone anniversary of the star, with a one-hour documentary commemorating his contribution to cookery TV.

In the film, Jamie will open up his home to the cameras as celebrity friends and fans discuss the star’s rise in the limelight.

The show will also include a piece based on the hundreds of job losses that occurred following the Jamie’s Italian chain collapse that left nearly a thousand people unemployed.

As a result, a TV insider told The Sun that they felt the show was ‘poor timing’ and said: ‘Although the documentary is set to address his restaurant chain collapse, the mainly positive tone will rub salt in the wound for those ex-employees who were shown the door.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

After 22 of Jamie’s restaurants were shut down in the wake of his empire collapse, rival Italian eatery Frankie and Benny’s has offered to employ those who lost their jobs.

Jamie announced the close of his restaurants in an email to all staff members, thanking them for putting their ‘heart and souls’ into the job.

In the letter, he wrote: ‘I’m absolutely devastated that we have had no choice but to put our much-loved UK restaurants into administration, which means the fate of Jamie’s Italian UK, Fifteen London and Barbecoa is now in the hands of an administrator, who will be responsible for the operations of these restaurants and their future’

‘I appreciate how difficult this news is for everyone affected and I want to assure you that I have explored every possible avenue available and exhausted all options over the past months to try and save this business,’ he continued.

‘I have personally invested everything I could to try and turn things around.’

Despite the cook’s business issues, he’s started renovating his £6million, 16th century mansion in Essex last month.

It is not known if he and wife Jools, along with their five children, have moved into the spacious pad yet.

20 Years Of The Naked Chef: Jamie Bares All will air on Channel 4 at a later date.
