Luke Morgan is set to return to Hollyoaks tonight.
The character, played by Gary Lucy, has been through the ringer when his drinking went from bad to worse, and his faily fell apart around him.
As his drinking worsened, his wife, Mandy, started cheating on him with his best mate Darren Osborne, despite his being married to Nancy.
As well as this, he was concerned when his son, Ollie, starting acting strangely, but as he drinking continued he became less and less aware of his son’s actions.
In the end, when Ollie finally told him about his football coach’s abuse, he believed the abuse to actually be at the hands of Scott Drinkwell, and so he violently attacked him while drunk, not long after finding out about his wife’s affair.
In tonight’s episode, Luke is released from prison to give evidence at Ollie’s sexual abuse trial.
Ollie was sexually abused by Buster Smith but Luke was often too drunk to spot the signs or remember his son telling him.
As Ollie’s trial begins, Luke arrives at court in the back of a police van, while his estranged wife Mandy and former friend Darren, worry that he won’t be able to handle the pressures of the court room.
In emotional scenes, Luke beats himself up for not protecting his son and begs the jury to do what he couldn’t.
He also turns his anger on Buster, but his hot-headed outburst may put extra pressure on the trial and could ultimately jeopardise the whole case as he fails to contain himself and give an accurate picture of what was going on.
With Ollie relying on his dad to be able to give a fair account of all of the goings-on with Buster, will Luke be able to help his son?
Hollyoaks airs tonight at 7pm on E4.
