The actress is the latest legendary EastEnders star to announce their comeback to the BBC soap after Pasty Palmer (Bianca Jackson) and Dean Gaffney (Robbie Fowler) also revealed they were returning.
Lucy Benjamin’s EastEnders cast member Lisa Fowler was last seen on the show in 2017.
She will be returning to Walford after discovering that her daughter Louise (Tilly Keeper) is pregnant.
Having previously tried to kidnap Louise, Lisa come back to make sure her daughter is being properly taken care of by father Phil Mitchell, who she famously shot in 2001.
“Going back to EastEnders feels like going home”
Her comeback is set to cause shockwaves around Albert Square – with Sharon in particular not likely to be happy.
Talking about her return to the soap, Lucy, 48, told The Mirror: “Going back to EastEnders feels like going home.
“I love and adore playing Lisa, and am looking forward to seeing what’s in store for her this time.”
Jon Sen, the programme’s executive producer, added: “Lisa is one of the most enduringly popular characters in the history of the show.
“We’re chuffed Lucy has agreed to come back for a thrilling storyline that takes us into the heart of her past on the Square.”
The news comes after EastEnders bosses confirmed Dean, 41, will return as Robbie on Monday June 3.
Patsy Palmer’s reprisal of Bianca Jackson is also upcoming, with the character set to reunite with on-screen daughter Tiffany Butcher (Maisie Smith).
Talking about her return, Sen told The Sun: “When I joined the show in January, bringing Bianca Jackson back to the Square was high on my wish list.
“I’m thrilled to announce that Patsy’s agreed to return to reprise her iconic creation in a blistering storyline that will grip fans this autumn.
“There is no-one more excited than me to see her step back into Albert Square again. I simply cannot wait.”
