Famous names across fashion, beauty and Hollywood are mourning the death of OG celebrity hairstylist Oribe Canales.
Canales – who was referred to mostly by his first name – who grew to fame styling supermodels in the ’80s and ’90s and founded the eponymous hair line Oribe in 2008, died at age 62, People and WWD confirmed. USA TODAY has contacted his company for comment.
Jennifer Lopez, one of the names most associated with him, expressed her condolences in a lengthy message on Instagram dedicated to the “Latino legend.”
“When I was 16 I was fascinated with Vogue magazine I would ride on the train and look at all the images of the supermodels and I was obsessed with the hair!” she wrote in her caption. “When I saw an image I loved I would check who did it and it was always someone named Oribe … Cut to years later I was making my first album. I started working with Benny Medina and he said to me, we have to do an album cover shoot, who do you want for hair and makeup … The next 10 years I would spend with Oribe by my side in every waking and working moment.”
