Dad’s agonising decision to turn off baby’s life support – weeks after wife died in labour

Sadly, his health appears to have deteriorated as the dad issued a statement on Facebook yesterday.

Speaking via his pastor Matt McCloghry, he said: “Today was one of the hardest days of my life. It will forever be etched in my brain.

“I sat in a room at Wolfson’s hospital with 15 highly qualified medical professionals who all care deeply for our son Matthew.

“Unfortunately, the last thing I ever thought I would have to talk about as a father was now very real and happening…

“Today I was faced with something no father should ever have to face.

“The decision to place Matthew on endless life supporting contraptions and medications or allow God to carry him where He will.”

Matthew asked the public to pray for his son, before revealing his hopes that the tot will join his mum in heaven.

He concluded: “My miracle is holding my son for as many precious moments as possible and when the time comes, lifting him up to his mommy so that she can hold him for the first time in paradise..

“I would be grateful for your prayers in the coming days as we work with the doctors and medical staff and plan to see Matthew off to his mommy and Heavenly Father.”

The dad’s loved ones aren’t the only ones looking out for him during this difficult time.

A GoFundMe page has been set-up for the family – and it’s already raised an incredible $161,000 (£125,000).
