Pop superstar Taylor Swift received the inaugural Teen Choice Icon Award in a ceremony on Sunday.
Presented the award by U.S Women’s Soccer Team co-captain Alex Morgan, the surfboard-shaped award was adorned with the faces of Swift’s three felines, Meredith, Olivia and Benjamin Button.
In her acceptance speech, Swift spoke at length about Morgan’s various achievements, congratulating her for “not only winning the World Cup with her amazing teammates, right? But while they were winning the World Cup, they were also taking a historic stand in terms of gender equality, gender pay gap.”
She encouraged her young fans to “get online” to continue the conversation about pay equality because it “isn’t over yet.”
Swift also announced that the title track of her upcoming album, Lover, is set for release on Friday, August 16, one week prior to the release of the album itself on August 23.
